Today at work, someone threw out a copy of Windows 3.1, still sealed in the factory plastic wrap :Q. The box is in near-mint shape. It looks just like it came off of a store shelf yesterday - until you look at the bottom and it says "Copyright Microsoft, 1992" :p.

So of course I grabbed it - but don't know exactly what to do with it. Does something like this have any value? Or is it just garbage?

hold onto it until you're old and frail. any crap that's old is sure to be worth money! I don't know about right now, but save it anyhow!

The next time some computer-ignorant person asks you what they need to fix their spyware-riddled computer, hand them that box.

I still have 2 copies in the original packaging. Maybe they'll be worth something in 20 years....

I am sure there is a family in Bangladesh that would just kill for modern software like that.

Wait...Third world countries are notorious dens of piracy and they probably have XP they bought for $1.00 from a guy on the street. :D

eBay - chumps will buy anything. I'm sure some loser out there collects stuff like that.

Try ebaying it. You'll have a tough time even finding hardware and drivers old enough to install it with. I'm sure it has some curiosity value but functionally it's pretty much useless.

edit: wow - 12 replies in 5 minutes.....getting slow in my old age.

Heh...I probably will end up throwing it on Ebay and see what happens.

The system req's printed on the box are hilarious though :D

-MS-DOS 3.1 or later (5.0 recommended)
-PC using 286 or better (386 rec'd)
-640k conventional plus 256k extended memory (1024k rec'd) for 286 - 2048k rec'd for 386
-One 5.25 HD or 3.5 disk drive and HDD with 6mb available (10 rec'd) :Q

Damn. Full OS install on less than 10MB HDD space - including swap file. Jebus.

if it was 3.11 it would be woth a ton. But not 3.1.

Hmm, what's the difference? Mine are 3.1....

3.11 is Windows for Workgroups.

NETWORKING BABY!

It's hard to imagine a time when the addition of networking to an operating system was only worth a tenth of an upgrade point.

I'd buy it but those specs are a little steep for me. I don't think my system can handle it.
