first off, what kind of fan are u using? retail? if you plan on overclocking, retail fans wont cut it.

my suggestion(i'am not sure if u know this already):

1. install the cpu and heat sink fan first, then install the mobo into your case. also, may want to invest in some thermal compound(artic silver)

2. i would install just the bare essentials first, like video card, harddrive, cd-rom, ram. then install win 2k. i'am not sure if there were nay issues with the sound blaster live and your mobo.

after getting win 2k running and stable, then install the rest, like sound card, cdrw, etc....

just my .02 cents.

have fun

did u buy the retail package or OEM?

i'am not sure if the retail fan would cut it even if your not overclocking. better make sure you have good cooling and good airflow, those AMD 1.4's can get hot

I'd be pretty likely to believe that since they are including the fan with the processor without overclocking that is should be enough to work fine.

Download and install the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers except for the AGP (uncheck that). Download and install the AMD miniport driver for Win2k. The URL is:

I'm setting up an Athlon 1.2 8K7A system too, and have a Thermaltake Volcano II HSF on the CPU, a "middle of the pack" HSF, but maybe better than what came with yours. $8 at newegg.com.

What I'm going to do is make a few changes to my case, Enlight midtower with 300 W PSU. Put a fan exhausting from the back (there's already a place for it). Will move the front fan from where it's doing little good to a spot I'm going to create for it on the left side. Will drill a 3" hole and mount the moved front fan, drawing air in through a filter I'm going to create from a couple of layers of curtain material, easily and quickly removeable for cleaning with compressed air for when it gets dusty.
