I've win 98SE and now also win2k on my computer i thought it was supposed to be better than win98 but here it come i've been running UT in both of them and gess what i had the Det 3 in win 2k but in win 98 some older verion det 2 probably and the average fps at 1024x768x32 was 78(Win98SE)and 68 (win2k) plus it took 40%longer to load. Now that's money well spent!!!

The only thing you will accomplish by being rude to others especially when you are the one asking for help is nothing. Have you tried going to www.ntcompatible.com. they currently have a comprehensive listing of games and what OSes they work in. If there is a workaround they will list it as well.
This board is an excellent resource for solutions to problems concerning computers, as well as other things. Getting on the wrong side of the people that frequent this forum will do you no good in the future when you do need help. Although I'm in the same boat, basically, since some of the software I want to run can't be run under Win2K. It's often the fault of the software (such as checking for NT Service Pack 3 on install, which naturally isn't there), but it's still annoying.
I have no idea if the GeForce performance problem is inherent in Win2K, but indeed it performs much much worse in Win2K. I attribute this to AGP problems, but I can't really say.

Win2k (this NT) was designed with business applications in mind... which means stability, reliability, good memory management, etc... The OS was not designed for games... Therefore, games doesn't work as well in win2k doesnt mean the OS "sucks"... It simply was not designed to be used that way...
If you are really concern about games, I would suggest going back to win9x or winME...

Just got done installing Win2k Pro (again, had 2 remove cause I hosed it). I must say it runs everything but Direct 3D beautifully. I'm sure by the time DirectX 8 is final, Win2k performance will be up to par.
its pretty obvious that win2k is not for gamers. But people like GM just can`t grasp this. I think Genuis is correct about his description of GM. Instead of uninstalling win2k, he whines that because he can`t understand how it works, it is therefore a piece of crap.

Win2k is a great improvement over Win NT 4.0 !! How can you guage software with one bad experience and a general lack of knowledge of the OS you are intending to use?

Win2k is awesome....I've never seen plug and play work so well. It runs smoothly for the most part, but if you are going ot run it, you should realize that it is similar to NT(thus that stupid "based on NT technology" message). NT?? NO THANKS. I'll take Win2k though because it fixes a lot of the bugs that were still in NT even after you get all the service packs.. To make an obvious statement that's already been said in here....if you are going to be playing games, use an OS made for home use....such as 95, 98, or ME. As for the "rudeness", please try to be nice to each other... I don't want to sound lame or nothin', but The Anandtech moderator just got through making plenty of statements about how rudeness WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the forums. I respect da man! But you shouldn't be nice for the moderator, you should be nice to each other because the forums are here for everyone to enjoy and help each other out.....not make fun of people for saying something you disagree with or even something that is completely wrong. I believe that Win2k is a step up from NT, I mean, at least you can run that game on Win2k....could you on NT??? Probably not.... But that's all I'm going to say for now because I type pretty fast and have a lot of time(not going to bore you peeps anymore)..........
