And where, exactly did you get this?

Bwahahaha... BUSTED!
BTW I vote and use Win2K! There is nothing that I do or can't do on the PC that would give me a reason to upgrade to XP at the moment.
1. winxp image viewer. its exactly what i need in an image viewer. im not saying its the ultimate app, but its perfect for me. loads quickly, has support for all the file types i need, and the screen doesnt get cluttered up with a bunch of toolbars and image editing stuff i dont need. i like it.
1.a. I can use the image viewer to save a jpeg as a bmp or vice versa. useful if you dont have photoshop installed or are just doing a quick job. it does a horrible job with gifs though.
2. windows-L. i can lock my pc with this simple key combo. once you get used to it, its annoying as hell to have to live without it. kinda like windows-break. i was trying to fix someones computer a few weeks ago and they had no break key. AAAHHHHH
3. integrated zip support. after a fresh format its nice to be able to install drivers in the order I want instead of having to install winrar first.
4. 3 rows of icons in the system tray (when running double-thick taskbar). i used to make fun of people that had a dozen icons in the system tray, but i actually have quite a few that i use down there. dtools, f@h, mirc, trillian, volume, dumeter, mbm, NAV, and thats just what i see down there right now. what i can fit in a 3x3 square, win2k has to use 5 columns to do.
5. i get a high color display even before installing video drivers.
6. I hate how win2k/win9x have to have a solid color under the text labels of desktop icons. i love the "drop shadow" setting in winxp. every once in a while when trying to disable some of the visual effects i disable this on accident, and man it looks like crap.
7. winxp detects my gravis gamepad pro without problems, win2k doesnt. and drivers from gravis dont support win2k
I recently got a package of various hardware from a trader, and tested it all in my xp pro machine (legit retail copy).Originally posted by: bsobel
You must be using a cracked version of xp then, because in this link, it says that the reactivation has been changed from immediately after reboot to 3 days after the hardware change. You should maybe check where you are getting your software, or stop giving knowledge on an pirated copy of software.
Perhaps you should stop giving the advice, as your simply wrong. You do not have to activate after every hardware change, just certain ones (hd's and mb's are big ones). Video cards, net cards and others will usually not result in reactivation unless you change a number of them at the same time.

instability of the activation process? THATS your reason to stick with win2k?Originally posted by: rmrf
I think with everything that has been discussed, it just goes to show that XP is an unstable OS. I have been required to reactivate from a mere hdd installation, others have installed hdd's video cards, and memory without having to reactivate and so on. In my mind, I don't know if I would want an OS that doesn't know whether it is coming or going. W2k is what I am going to stick with, it works fine with games, and as far as networking goes I will stick with a linux distro that best suites the networking need. All OS's have their pros and cons, XP just seems to have more cons with the instability of activation process and just all around how it works. This is just my opinion, and I am giving it hoping someone will get what they want out of it.
