Windows 2011 Server Remote Desktop Question

Face2Face

Hey Guys,

I have recently built a media server. The server runs headless on the other side of my home office. I am able to connect to the server using remote desktop with my desktop and work laptop. It's pretty easy to setup if you are on the local network. I even have the splashtop app on my phone to access the server when I am at work or over 3G. My question is, how do I setup remote desktop on my work laptop to access the actual "Desktop" of my server when I am not on my local network? Does anyone have a walk-through for this?

thanks!

Unless they broke compatibility for different versions of windows, I think all you need to do is set up port forwarding for port 3389 to the box you want to access. You might consider changing the port that the server listens on and forward that one instead. I don't know if your phone app can handle non-standard ports though. It adds a little bit of obscurity/security.
