I am currently using a windows XP Pro on a box to record tv using beyond TV and a Hauppauge PVR-250. Works great but I want to move my WINTV PVR into my server running windows 2003 Server. Hauppauge doesn't support 2003 server but I have read that it will work.

Anyone doing this?

Unless the installer specifically checks for server versions and disallows it, it should work fine. 2003 server and xp are based on the same code base.

The 2 are very similar, but I am curious why switch? There really isnt much that you will gain by going to 2k3 in terms of PVR stand point.

I tried installing an ATI AIW 9800 on windows 2003 server, it didn't work. I thought it would but apparently not.

I want to reduce the number of computers I have. So I am looking to take my HTPC (which only records stuff) and let my server do that.

You didn't say how it failed. What did the install tell you? Did it say that it can't install on a server?

The devices were unknown and no drivers were working for them. They would not install. I wanted to know if anyone has the hauppauge installed and working in windows 2003 server before I have to go through the trouble. Just trying to save some time.

Did you download the drivers for Hauppauge? Capture cards are rather specialized devices, I am doubtful that Windows XP or Server would have the drivers built-in.

yeah, keep it simple.
HTPC -> recording, server -> storing shiznit.

I am trying to do that, have the HTPC and Server in one. Seems like none of the recording hardware is supported in Windows 2003 Server. I would say that is pretty LAME.

Well I think that card uses a BrookTree chipset. So you can try the generic drivers here or possibly the ones located here. If neither work I really can't think of anything else to suggest though.
