Windows 2000 vs. XP vs. 2003

For some folks, they swear Windows 2000 over Windows XP because 2K is "faster" while XP is "bloated". I think 2K is indeed faster but in terms of usability, XP is plain better (yes, it's objective). But with a decent system, Windows 2003 is BEST for speed and security. Decided not to include Vista since it's still "incomplete". My ranking would be:

2K3 > XP > 2K

Um 2003 is a server operating system and most of it is taken from XP in the first place. So your'e comparing apples to oranges here.

Insofar as desktop operating systems go:

XP > 2K and yes I have used both. Using 2000 Server on my PDC as a matter of fact.

but back to the topic it's a hard one...I like 2K's better performance, but XP's extra Features and ease of use sorta make it pretty even to me....2003 doesn't really rate cause it's in a different boat being a server OS...but it's pretty good too.

I guess it all depends on the user really.

But when comparing those three, theyre practically the same, i dunno what 2003 can do that XP PRO cant, but im sure its somthing along the lines of supporting more cpus or sockets or somthing. Pretty useless to most, as for XP vs 2000, 2000 is older and *some* programs dont actually work on it. Thats a bit unfair as its simply XP without any eyecandy.

I essentially use Windows 2003 on my desktop in the form of XP x64. The order that I'd prefer them in would probably be 2003 > XP > 2000, though on a 32 bit system it would be more like XP == 2003 > 2000.

That's a BULLSH!T statement!! Windows 2000/XP/2003 all PWNEd any piece of turd Windows 9X based OS including but not limited too that piece of turd called Windows 98SE. As for what is the best out of all Windows 2000, WIndows XP, and Widnows 2003, I'd say it all depends on what you like and what you are doing.

One thing is for certain though. Windows 2000/XP/2003 all kick the pants out of any other Microsoft opertaing systems ever made to this day. Windows NT 3.X to Widnows NT 4.X are the only opertaing systems that were halfway decent before the arrival of Windows 2K.

I think I'm going to go on eBay and see if I can snag me a copy of Windows 98 SE. God, I loved that operating system!

But, back on topic: I prefer Windows XP over those other two. Today's hardware run Windows XP great. I really do not see where the bloat is.

I'm not sure where is Windows 98 coming from here??? I thought it's just a simple NT based OS comparison. If anyone has used 2003 before, I'm sure it's pretty fast especially at startup where XP doesn't do as well. And 2003 remains fast even after installing and uninstalling software often.

My first PC was a Hewlett Packard 630 (I think) with a 533MHz Celeron and 128MB RAM. It ran Windows 98SE fast and fine. I don't think I had much problems with it, and it ran pretty much any Windows software I threw at it. Simply put, 98SE wasn't terrible. It worked well for most people and failed miserably for some. Let's get back to the voting...
