Windows 2000 Stricter Proxy Settings?

Just upgraded from Win95 to Win2k on my laptop for work. For some reason, I'm unable to connect to any chat clients now (specifically AOL instant messenger). Under win95, i could put in the proxy information and have it connect. Now, with win2k and the SAME proxy information... I'm unable to connect.

Anyone have any initial ideas why?
 
Trust me, that's not happening.

another coworker (one that had it running in win95) yesterday just got the upgrade today. Now it's not working for him.

There's somehting with Win2k going on here
 
Are you doing the upgrade or is your IT dept? if its your IT how do U know they aren't doing something else to limit the use of IM clients?
