Windows 2000 sound conflicts

I just partioned my drive into two and installed windows 2k on the new partition...it works fine, except for the problems with my sound card. When I first tried to install the sound card windows was not able to find drivers that worked. I have a MX300 and looked for the vortex drivers for windwos 2000. I installed the drivers and it worked, but then when I try to play two audio files at once...like a mp3 and movie ...the sound dies and I cannot get it back unless I restart. Now I no longer have sound....I know lots of people have vortex 2 chips or MX300 it works fine for me in 98 but why is it still a problem for 2k at this point? Does anybody have an idea how I can resolve this? Thanks

Do you have a via based mobo? If so then you're out of luck in terms of getting your sound to work. There is a problem with vortex based sound cards and via chipsets. I had to replace my vortex2 card with a Philips AE to get it to work with my new mobo in win2k. The vortex2 worked fine with my older BH6 in win2k.

Via chipset here also, had to get a SB Live, could not get my MX300 to stop crashing with a MSI Pro2 and W2K.

Yea the chipset is a via....thats pathetic though....its a common chipset and a decent card. There should be a solution. Oh well....thanks.
