When I boot, the bios reports I have 524288 (/1024 = 512) but Windows 2000 Task Manager shows total physical memory as 523760 = 511.48. Why does Windows show less?

Thanks.

Soyo 6BA+IV BX board with Highpoint ATA-66. Video card is Asus V6800 DDR Deluxxx. Could this be something shadowed in the bios using up 1/2 MB of RAM? What else?

Any Windows 2000 users with less RAM reported than installed?

Checked the bios. Nothing shadowed. Video bios & system bios cache disabled. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot John. I'm relieved that I probably don't have bad RAM but now I'm just curious. Any idea why this happens? Is Windows reserving a little RAM for its own nefarious purposes (like caching my cookies to relay info to MS ;))?

Mine also shows 523760k. Don't think it matters but it is interesting that some show this but others don't.
