Windows 2000 Registry Error

I did a complete reinstall of Windows 2000 + SP4, reloaded software, firewall, anti-virus etc. Now two weeks later and completely out of the blue (quite literally) I get a BSOD "REGISTRY_ERROR" STOP: 0x051, 0x0C, 0x05, etc) each time the computer boots.

Is there any way of restoring the registry??? (I know that in Win98 the computer held copies of the last five registry backups). I've tried "Last known good config" but to no avail. Computer will boot in Safe Mode.

Help!!!

you can manually replace the registry files in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Config folder with the copies in the %SystemRoot%\Repair\Regback folder by using Recovery Console.

Thanks for the Tip! I was nearly going to reformat and start again :-(

I'm not so familiar with Win2K and although I've been able to get the Recovery Console up and running I can't find the Regback folder. The Repair folder exists but there are only 10 files in it.

Any clues?

you have no regback folder because you've never taken a system state backup. Now isn't the time to start though.

run a quick "chkdsk c: /r"
