Hey there

I am in the process of setting up a low usage webserver using windows 2000 PRO.
The only thing is when I hit the server name or the lan IP address it gives me the directory page
with the IP address or server name and a blue link for the index.htm page. Under the setup
I tried to add the index.htm as part of the location of the resources but it only lets me
put the folder the index.htm file is held. I guess my next question is: What am I doing
wrong? This will be my first manual webserving using this server.
When I hit the link the webpage comes up fine. It does not however bring the page
up by typing the server name or IP address.

Open up the Internet Information Services management tool under Administrative Tools. Find your website, right-click and go to Properties. Under the Documents tab, you should see a list of default document names. Make sure "index.htm" is listed.

Hey there,

You hit it right on the head. Now it comes right up. :D.
Thanks very much. I just have to check and make sure I have all my DNS servers and the actual
Domain name services I subscribed to set up correctly. I will let you know how it goes. I have spent
the last week trying to get it setup and to have someone come and reply ONCE is great. You know
your stuff. Thanks again.

Hey there,

I got the webserver up and running now as you all may know. The only problem now is the
security features I have enabled. I want the websight to have login and password verification.
I setup login accts unders windows for those people that will have access (Family). The only REAL
problem here is that they require admin rights to access the webpage, otherwise it will not display
the page. MY question here is: Do I have to use admin rights just so they can use the logins AND
passwords?

Thanks for any help given as always ;)
