Windows 2000 Pro - how to open/view/export registry on another system?

I have a registry file (ntuser.dat) that I want to open up and export a couple of keys(configuration stuff, no reg keys...).

What happend is a Win2k system failed due to a user "just looking around". I can access all the data by hooking the drive to a working system(slaved), but there are settings I need to get access to that are stored in the registry files on the defunct' HD.

How can I do this? Ideas?

Thanks a bunch!

file is USER.DAT and it's binary file that regedit can open.....BUT, regedit will only open the current registry file.

What I'm trying to do is export keys for two differnt programs. One is remote administrator's phonebook other is the modem dialup icons to various ISP's. The ISP stuff is easy to replace, but the remote admin phonebook is huge....and retyping all the entries would be a b*tch...

No, I can't boot safe mode....partition and drive are gone (formatted). I only have the .DAT files. :(
