Hello,

I have several workstations, one of them running Windows 2000 Pro. Another machine has Windows XP installed.

On the Win2k Pro machine, I have a share, called "Network Import" and I want to be able to access it, i.e., map it from my XP machine and when I restart the XP machine have it automatically map the drive (i.e., drive F).

The drive maps just fine (I supply a username/password that is located both on the XP machine and the 2000 Pro machine, with the same username and password), however, when I restart my XP machine, I always get an error bubble at the taskbar, saying something along the lines of "Windows could not reconnect to network drive". When I go to My Computer and double-click on the 'disconnected' drive (the one that I couldn't connect to when starting up XP), it pops up a window asking me for a username/password, while saying "incorrect password or unknown username for: \\machinename\Network Import". If I type in the same user/password that i used when I originally mapped the drive, it works fine! Why it can't automatically map the drive using the same credentials I typed is beyond me... When I originally mapped the drive, I even tried using the "Connect as different username" selection and put in the same username/password that I always use to connect to that share.

Both machines are on the same workgroup, the username I am using to connect to the shared folder exists both on the XP machine and the 2000 Pro machine (with the same password). I don't know what else to do!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mapping network drives just maps the location and not the credentials. Every time you open it you will have to re-enter (or confirm) the user ID and password. Or, on the machine you are connecting to, you could create a user account with the same information as you use to login to the first PC and then it should just let you through because you will be authorized with that computers own account...
