Hi guys!

My friend has a:

Athlon Classic, 800MHz (slot A)
ASUS K7V (1005a BIOS)
128MB PC133 Generic
ASUS V7700 GeForce 2 GTS
Sound Blaster Live! Value
56Kbps Lucent Winmodem
10/100 Realtek chipset NIC
12GB ATA-33 Quantum HD
good quality 300W power suply

OS: windows 2K pro, w/ SP1 and all compatibility and critical updates installed
DX 8 installed

Drivers:
Via 4 in 1: 1.25a
Detonator 6.31
VIA AGP patch fom windows update (1.03 I think)
SB Live! liveware 3 for win2K

I did a fresh windows 2000 install, installed the drivers, gone to Windows Update and installed all updates and SP1...

But his system is locking up on DX aplications, especially games like Need For Speed 5 and Alien vs Predator.

Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I had the exact same problem with the same setup. The patch didn't cure anything. What did work was turning off ACPI which had put all my PCI devices on the same IRQ. The SBLive and GeForce didn't seem to like each other. If I took the SBLive out, the 3D would run fine. Go to Device Manager and double click on Computer. Change it to Standard PC. You should disable ACPI in the bios too I guess. After you reboot, win2k will reinstall all your PCI cards and this time won't put them all on the same IRQ.

You might also want to try playing with your AGP aperture size in the bios. Try setting it to 256. That's solved a couple AMD/Nvidia headaches I've seen.

That's strange. ACPI seems to work for some people and not for others. I installed DX8 on my win2k machine and d3d works fine.
