I would recommend 128 for most uses, and 256 for games. I have 384 and it runs silky smooth.

As for maximum usable memory... far above the 1.5 gigs that u can stuff in your computer :D

Absolute Minimum Memory req: 64 (don't do this, W2K will run, but no good)
Recommended: 128
Optimal: 256 (more would be a waste of money unless you are in very applications)
Maximum usable memory: ? that depends on your mobo, if it's 1.5 GB, so let it be 1.5, if your mobo indeed supports this.

Thanks,

at baseline idle, my win2k system takes 75MB ram. I'd still say the minimus is 128MB, but 256 runs nicely with my machine.

I'm hurting right now.. I took out a slow 64MB stick to replace it with a faster 128MB one since it's so doggone cheap..

Running 200 megs right now, but that's with IE, file explorer, Opera, IM, Innoculate, HotSync, Morpheus, and fair use churning out 3 .avi streams :D

So if this is 200 megs, I think 256 is the minimum. Well, 128 is the minimum if you don't want to have a fit, I couldn't imagine running win 2k on 64

42. Oops, wrong question.

I have crawled Win2kPro on a Celeron300 w/32MB ram(it worked, just SLOW). I have 128 on my Pro machine, and it runs fine for general productivity. I would suggest 256, especaially if you have none...256 is a sweet price point, and only takes one slot (leaving room for more. I have 384 in my K6-2/500 training box, running Win2k BackOffice (complete suite, 120 day eval edition from MS for $15, btw) and Linux, and runs beautiful. Beyond 512, and you will not see much improvement, unless you are a server, 3D rendering, CAD, or intense multimedia development.

my 1.5 cents (I hate taxes!)

Shudder: Just imagine Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Active Directory running on (Drumroll.........) 64MB. Yup. Yeah, so it took 10 minutes to boot :) Hey, don't blame this one on me. The school where I attend overrode the instructors recommendation for the base configs (oh him? Don't mind him. We pay to have him on staff because of his incredible experience in the industry. Nevermind he could make $300,000/year privately consulting on his own, and did before he came to teach). Well, at least it taught me what not to do. That is a great lesson on its own.

The min is 32
MS recs 64 keep in mind that most of the time W2k uses about 62MB of RAM just for the OS
So if you go with either of these two expect you hardrive to be in pagefile hell
Optimal whatever you want
Personnally I would go with no less than 256MB

and I cant recall right now the max RAM for W2KPro, but I know W2KServer supports all the way up to up to 4GB

EDIT

Server requires a bare minimum of 128MB to Operate

I've got 256mb and things seem pretty smooth.

Minimum - 128
Recommended - 256
Optimal - 512 (HA!)
Maximum Usable - as much as you can afford!!!:D
