HI
I have windows9x peer to peer network. They all see each other fine.Last night I installed a nwe computer-server with windows 2000 server on it. So now the network has 5 pcs including the server.I did not configure any domains and just started working in the workgroup. Now The server can see all the pcs and all the pcs can see the server and each other. My problem is that when i click on the server icon in networkneighborhood it requires password, while i did not define any kind of password when I set it up except the administartor password;which is not working in that prompt;and i noticed a line in the dialog box indicating that it is sharing a folder with this name IPC$ ; or something like that. When I checked that sharing folders in computer management I saw it but it did not let me modify anything,I have not define any password for it.Please help my server is usless right now.
Thank you

You have 2 options:

1. enable the "Guest" account on the Windows 2000 machine.

2. create a user account on the Windows 2000 machine with the same username and password as each Win98 user.

edit: and you'll also have to share a drive or folder on the Windows 2000 machine.

Youll have to have an account with the same name and password on the 2k server as the ones that are on the 9x machines, or enable the guest account, but I think thats the lesser liked/secure way.

Example:
2k server is logged on as administrator, PW is password
9x box1 is logged on as Dumb Guy2, PW is logged
9x box2 is logged on as Dumb Guy3, PW is letterhead

to access the shares/printers/etc on the 2k server, youll have to create an account on it for Dumb Guy2 with the PW of logged, same with the ID for box2

<no offense on the Dumb Guy names, thats what we use here at work for test accounts>

<< one of them is fat and all the others are fat32. >>

It makes no difference what format the disk is.
