*** Windows 2000 fails to boot ***

I have an Abit KT7-RAID motherboard with a Quantum ATA100 Harddrive (Windows 2000 loaded).

Problem:
Window freezes when it's loading. It freezes at the first (text-like) progress bar (at the 2nd mark). And pressing F8 doesn't do anything, in fact, nothing seems to work. Help?

Cause:
Windows 2000 loaded fine and perfectly for a day and when I tried to add an older Harddrive (non ATA100) on the same IDE cable with the CD-ROM, it just wouldn't load Anymore. Even after I have removed both the CD-ROM AND the non-ata100 harddrive. It just siting there.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

i've found that ata100 cables can be finicky, every one else seems to have no probs, but personally i've nearly killed a few drives because i stuck my hand in there and tried to just move the cable out of air flow, while the system was on, and had it lock up, or reboot or fuzzzzz up in some way. . or I'll have a cable work fine, detach it to run on a udma 33 channel for a while, then reconenct the udma66 cable, and it'll take a few reboots and adjusting the cable just the right way (like an old tv antennae) to get it to detect the drive and boot

I finally got into the F8 menu at Win2000 boot-up. I picked the safe-mode load sequence and the following is what I got before it froze again:

multi(0)disk(o)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT\System32\ntoskrnl.exe
multi(0)disk(o)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT\System32\hal.dll
multi(0)disk(o)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT\System32\BOOTVID.DLL
multi(0)disk(o)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT\System32\system\

My guess is that someone happened (or didn't happen) with the 4th line which caused the system to halt.

Can anyone help?

Start the install from the CD. Select to "Repair" the OS when asked. Then have it repair everyting.

Bozo 😀
