windows 2000 crashing!!!!!

ok i just did a fresh install of 2k and i tried to put up some wallpaper and it said active desktop has to be enable so i clicked it then my comp crash and the mouse went all screwy well anyways i keep restarting and i cant change the wallpaper which keeps causing the system to crash! any help would be appreciated
 
Have you tried booting into your computer using safe mode? Press F8 at the screen when windows first starts loading (long bar along the bottom of the screen and all black and white).
