windows 2000 boot disk for clean install

I want to wipe my hard drive and do a clean install of only win2k. MY CD with 2k on it does not seem to be bootable. How can I do a clean install of 2k.
In the past I have had to install it from 98. But what this does is create a dual boot system which I am trying to go away from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's funny, my copy of 2K is bootable. Going through the install, I even have the choice of adding or deleting partitions, and which one I wanna install to.

Mine is a burned copy of the original and it doesn't seem to boot. Is there a way to use a win98 boot disk and then run the 2000 install from DOS. I didn't think this would be possible where there is no DOS support in 2k. Or is there a way I can do the install from the active win2k and wipe everything else and repartition from within the install

Don't quote me, but it's worth a try. There is an upgrade path from 98 to 2k, and I seem to remember a setup.exe on the cd. Once it gets started, all the options should be there to blow out the drive. I haven't tried setting it up on an old box (that wouldn't boot from cd), but the install is a lot (!) friendlier than NT.

The only trouble I've had was in setting up the dual boot, resizing the partitions, then hosing my boot loader.

Look for a bootdisk directory on your win2k CD and use the .exe in there to create the 4 boot floppies. Alternatively, go over to bootdisk.com to download the images.

so if i make these boot disks then i can wipe my hard drive and boot to these and then install the os. similarly to the way it was down with the 9x family.

do you have a cd burner? if you do just take that disk and make it bootable- follow the guides here and it shouldn't be a problem

Hi,
YES, you can use a win98 bootdisk, BUT it does not have smart drive installed. I use only win98 boot disks to install win2K, because I like the simplicity of it. If, however, your HD is on an ATA66/100 or SCSI adapter, use the bootdisks from the win2K cd. In order to get smart drive on a win98 boot disk, you will need to erase your help files and add smartdrv.exe. In addition, you will need to add smartdrv.exe to the autoexec.bat. If you are not familiar with this, just use the win2K bootdisks that can be made from the win2K cd. Hope this helps.

last night i streamlined sp2 into windows 2000 and then i burned it onto a cd and made it bootable. it seems to be working. tonight i am going to wipe the hard drive and then do a clean install. i will let you know how it turns out tomorrow.
