I have recently encountered this issue on three machines - one SSD and two HDDs. SMART and scans confirm no issues, but they will often just take a complete dump with 100% disk usage and I can't figure it out. Most often, there seems to be activity related to either svchost or Defender, but I can't figure out how to isolate or control them specifically.
Indeed, I have disabled those on all my computers. I'll go buy a replacement disk and give it a try, thanks.disabling 'Windows Search' and 'Superfetch' services. Haven't faced any issue with my Hard Disk now.
