Windows 10's Famous 100% Disk Usage

Hello! I'm really annoyed and frustated with the full disk usage in my PC. I have tried many things as everyone said like disabling BITS, Superfetch, Windows Search, changing registry value to '0' in Message Signal Interrupt Bug which is suggested by Microsoft Help. Nothing worked. I zero-filled my HDD and re-installed my entire WINDOWS OS but the issue exists. My PC is brand new though. Also, it massively lags (even the mouse pointer) when only the disk usage is full, I keep an eye on the Task Manager everytime my PC lags. Please help me with an exact solution.

Thanks in advance!

My thoughts tend to go in the direction of hardware issues or possibly the need to update drivers for the chipset and management engine.

Please can you do:

Right-click on Start button > Event Viewer
Custom Views > Administrative Events

List any errors or warnings (just mention the source name, possibly the error number too). Don't bother listing duplicates.

There shouldn't be any need to reduce disk usage on a clean Windows 10 installation; ie. when it has finished retrieving and installing updates, it should settle down to no disk activity. I assume the installation source was an original setup disc / USB flash drive from MS?

What version of Windows 10 are you using? (Right-click Start button > Run > winver)

Specs of PC? Is Windows 10 currently having no other software installed?

Oh! Just viewed Event Viewer and found many of the errors! Source is 'disk' and it's saying 'Hard Disk has a bad block' and Event ID is '7'. There are many duplicates. Winver is 'Build 1607 14393.953'.

PC specs:
Intel Core i5-6500
Kingston HyperX Fury 8x2 (16GB) RAM 2133 MHz
ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger Motherboard
WD Caviar Blue 1 TB HDD
GTX 1060 Strix OC

Looks like it's my HDD?

Also, I also want to know whether is it good to go for linux and install it on my PC? Of course, I'll be placing games aside.

It is weird that my HDD is damaged. But it is just 3 weeks that I purchased. :(

The good news is that you can send it back, aim for a refund, and get something better :) It may have been iffy from the start, it's why every disk I purchase gets a full chkdsk /f /v /r before I seriously start to use it. Admittedly I've only ever had one DOA, but disks are probably more irritating to replace than most other components. I would consider getting an SSD if I were you. Does the case have enough room for more than one storage device comfortably?

Did you jog or move it while it was running?

So, the disk is totally unusable? No, I didn't disturb my HDD at all when running. I'm worried that it is my brand new PC. I may check for Warranty.

If the drive is only 3 weeks old and you bought it as new, it's unquestionably under warranty. Most electronics in most developed countries have a mandated minimum one year warranty. Many HDDs have multiple year warranties.

The drive is not totally unusable, but would you want to use it? It's as slow as hell and it could crap out at any moment, or at least develop an unreadable sector right where a critical Windows system file is stored, then the system doesn't boot.

If I just happened to spot a dodgy drive (I check customers' event logs for disk/ntfs/iastor/amdsata errors as well as SMART stats, regardless of the nature of the appointment) that the customer wasn't experiencing any symptoms for, I'd let them know what I've spotted, then advise that if their need for the computer is generally immediate and urgent, then they ought to replace the drive before it causes them problems. If on the other hand the computer isn't used for anything remotely important or urgent, then they could get the drive replaced if/when it does cause problems. Unless the drive is still within warranty, then my advice is always to get it replaced under warranty ASAP.

If its still within the return window of the seller send it back for a refund else file a claim with WD and get it replaced. Electronics usually fail early on if they're going to fail so you got lucky in that regard.

Get a refund and an SSD. A Maximus mobo and HyperX RAM matched to only a Blue HDD is just odd.

I'd always felt reasonably good about WD Blue drives in the uses to which I'd put them, but I've had more than one -- probably two -- go south on me without any marathon 24/7/365 3-year usage.

Really, you should warranty/RMA/replace the drive after you make a backup.

Electronics tend to follow the bathtub curve (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve). Typically, things either die early or they last a long time and wear out. Your drive did the former.

Could be a bad SATA cable, too. I've had bad cables show similar symptoms that went away with a new cable.

my number 1 cure all for ALL windows issue is to clean install. formatting and reinstalling kills viruses, corrupt files, and whatever other nonsense windows pick up over the ages.
