So ill try to make a long story as short as possible. I had a old failing seagate 1tb hard drive that i wiped an installed windows 10 on as a last ditch effort to see if that would fix things. I was able to install windows 10 but my system locking up from the bad hdd continued. I went an purchased a new seagate 1tb oem HDD but i am unable to install windows on it an i am at my wits end. When i attempt to install i get the error code 0x80300002.

I have tried alot of different fixes for this error to no avail. One thing i feel i should note is that i do have an older mobo (2011 gigabyte model) Is it possible that i need to install some type of sata controller driver? It shows the disc as unallocated space just fine but when i try to create a new partition either through windows 10 setup or through cmd prompt in disk part i get an i/o error. Could a incompatible sata cable ( using the one from my old hdd an i also tried another one i had in my case) or could it be dead out of the box.

Ill post system specs if needed an sorry for the wall of text im just so frustrated right now lol.

The board has SATA 3 ports (and SATA 2). Is your SATA cable plugged into one of the two SATA 3 ports (port 0 or 1)?

Outside of that, I would think Windows 10 shouldn't have any issues with drivers for AHCI. Let's ask @VirtualLarry as he tends to tinker with stuff like this much more than I do.
I dont want to speak so soon but i think you inadvertently fixed the issue on my old Hdd. I was able to play games for 6+ hours with no lock ups, i cant remember the last time this happened. All i did was change the sata cable i was using an i moved it too the sata 3 port i had never used. I guess ill just save the other hdd for a future build or return it.
Appreciate it guys Much Love

Glad everything worked out. I would return the drive you bought. You installed windows 10 on your old drive, but I'm guessing that you didn't have to add that driver. I'm I right?

It should have been the same on the new drive, unless you did an upgrade when you last installed windows on the old drive.
i Returned the drive to microcenter an told them it was prob doa. the guy agreed with me so i have a feeling i wasnt the only one returning one lately
