I built a new Skylake system with Asrock Z170 Extreme7, Corsair DDR4 3000 memory, and geforce 970 and Windows 10 takes a long time to resume, like 8-10 seconds. It would be in random places in the resume session. Sometimes the screen is black for a long time, sometimes i get the login screen but input inresponsive, other times i can type the password but i get the round rings for maybe 3-4 revolutions, but it always totals to maybe 8-10 seconds. I upgraded from Win7 with Sandybridge and that system took maybe 2-3 seconds to resume from sleep with boatloads of things open (I reboot maybe once every few months).

I did a reformat and clean install on another SSD drive (samsung 830) with Windows 10 - 1511 USB stick and that didn't solve it. Using nvidia 359 drivers and all other drivers are from Windows. Disabled hybrid sleep and tried motherboard drivers, changing network port, made static IP. So far still same thing.

Also tried installing windows 8.1 fresh and also experiencing same issues. Looks like it has something to do with video card or mobo combinations, maybe drivers.

I can only find solutions from Radeon systems, but nothing on Geforce systems so far. Thought it's some background process and all my gadgets, but a clean wipe didn't solve it. Also running stock settings didn't help (had it o/c solid at 4.5 and 3200mhz c15).

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

Wow after 2 days of trying everything (4 windows reinstalls and tons of drivers) I think I finally found the stupid thing causing it.

The first 4 SATA slots are SATA-Express and share with the top 2 m.2 slots. I figure I'd save those open for with then 950Pro become cheap enough, and i was going to plug in the USB 3.1 headers included with the board.

So i had the Boot SSD plugged into SATA A1 in the middle of the group. I figure they are all from the Intel but the middle connectors are actually from an Asmedia chip, while only the Sata-Express ports are all from the native Z170. Thought the Z170 had 10X Sata, but i was wrong.

Typical motherboard mindgames, glad you figured it out. Gotta read the manuals very carefully these days, especially for boards with multiple controllers for SATA/USB/etc. Where it's plugged in is critically important.
