Windows 10 permissions question (Resolved)

Ok, I have a situation that I have never personally ran into before. I helped a friend rebuild his PC with a new CPU, MOBO and RAM, but he failed to backup his windows install and files before the upgrade. He only had 1 HDD so obviously when we tried to boot into windows it freaked out and wouldn't boot. He didn't want to loose all of his personal data by completing a fresh install on his HDD so he went out and bought an SSD to install Windows on. We installed windows 10 on the new SSD booted into windows but cant access his personal files on the old windows install located on the HDD because he doesn't have permissions to access the old windows install. What can we do to allow us access?
