Speaking of which, its surprising how far today's celeron's have come. Slap a G1820 in and its capable.

that's an lga 775 Pentium 4, it should work
win10 requirements are basically the same as win8 (SSE2, NX bit), some socket478 boards might have a problem with the NX bit, but 775 should be likely to work.

the worst thing I tried windows 8.1 was a Sempron64 with 512MB of ram, the HD was working hard it was not usable realistically, but the CPU should be good with 1, 1.5GB of memory, I would expect 10 to be the same

I challenge the usability of those P4 machines, unless you're work relies on notepad. Even so, once windows update kicks in, it starts beating itself to death.

I don't recall anyone denying the fact that you will not be able to install 32bit 8.1 and 10 on P4 era hardware. 64bit is the issue.

192MB RAM? You'll not be able to do much of anything without thrashing the harddrive.

XP (RTM) could run with 128MB, whilst 512MB was more-or-less required for a decent experience with SP3. I remember someone trying to use XP with 64MB, lets just say you don't want to try that.

x86 Vista and newer really needs 1GB to even run halfway decent. Double that for x64, and even that is borderline.

I ran win 10 x64 on my old Dell Vostro 400 (Q6600) and it ran fine just slightly sluggish.

A long time ago I ran win 7 x64 on a P4 630 with 1gb ram and it ran ok.

Windows 7 installs on everything, even Pentium MMX, but you need 512MB in order to install it.

Win8 and Win10 have the NX bit and ACPI requeriments, that left out several 478 boards, not to mention the issue with DX9 compatible IGP, lots of mb of that era with VIA/SIS igps.

If you're gonna run a single-core P4, Cedar Mill is the one to run. They weren't great, but they were definitely a step up from Prescott.

I loved my Chaintech vnf3-250. It was cheap, and it pushed my 1.6 GHz Sempron 2800+ (Palermo) to 2.32 GHz. I would've needed a LANParty board to go higher. And a better HSF and PSU.

Windows 8.1 64 runs fine with the 2GB RAM 3100+ Sempron (E6).

That's kind of like how it was when I put Windows 10 64-bit on my Foxconn NanoPC C-70 PCs.

Edit: I recently dug out and re-did my NanoPCs, with 32GB SSDs, and Win10 April 2016 install WIMs.

They were surprisingly usable after the updating calmed down. Version 1511 and newer seem even more svelte than the original Win10 release.

my A64 X2 have like 1-5% load on win10 x64 with task manager open, if you have a very slow CPU perhaps it's best to leave the PC sitting for a while for it to complete the install/updates and so on before using it

(as long as it's not a Pentium 90 with 128mb)

Sure, a few Prescotts had Intel64. Cedar Mill was the first with blanket support, and on both P4's and Celeron.
