Microsoft is now recommending that affected users contact the company directly, and if you’ve manually downloaded the October update then “please don’t install it and wait until new media is available.

This is horrible. 😱

Lucky me. 😀

Always seemed like "insider" participants were alpha testers and general release users are now beta testers w/10..

Pfff, who cares about files? The top priority is a metrosexual app store and Cortana telemetry. 🙄

explain to me why they think it's okay to even touch user data in an upgrade. That should be completely off limits. MS really are not good at this whole OS thing. I say that given how many years they've been at it. They've learned very little over the years. There are improvements sure, but lots of step backwards, and unnecessary bloat and limited scope (engineers are famous for this) of what people actually use a computer for.

It is simple. Why trust Microsoft ? They mess up everything that was doing fine. Like adding that idiotic Ribbon in MS Office ... much harder to find what you want and the Colors you select for Fonts are not as Vivid when you Print ... Just one more reason all I want from them is the ability to select Security Updates Only ... If I want or need newer features, then I would do the upgrade. No reason they should stop security updates for older versions of Windows 10 .. It is after all, still Windows 10

I also visit a forum where there is a large Apple presence. Trust me Apple is no better the MS, if not worse. I can't count the issues I have with my ipad.

I don't keep personal data with the Windows partition but that still sucks. "Vast" testing my arse...

AFAIK i'm only running the update on one of my machines.

After I upgraded I didn't see any data files, I.E. word or excel files gone missing, but several programs ceased to function until I reinstalled them.

I sure do.

MS must have fired the team that made 7 and replaced them with bloatware designers.

Back in the day, 7 ran at perfectly usable speeds on an underpowered netbook.

Recently 10 brought my wife's laptop (with stats that'd put the old netbook to shame) to its knees and she complains she can barely get a thing done with it. She relies on an ancient laptop (2010 vintage) that still runs 7. With that, she's able to get her projects done no problem.

Just what I've heard about MS corporate culture is that the emphasis is on just adding more bells and whistles. But going back and cleaning up code, improving the last batch or stuff, optimizing the existing before spitting out more new crap... low priority.

Dunno how true that is, but from using every MS OS since 7, it sure sounds accurate.

I don't know. In head-to-head comparisons, AFTER Win10's initial setup stuff finally finishes, Win10 was faster for me, on my Gigabyte J1900 Brix, as well as my AMD C-60 APU based NanoPCs. (Both rather slow machines.)

And for the pair of Win7 64-bit / Core2-era laptops I just recently refurbished, it seems as though Win10 is faster on those machines as well.

Certainly better than the OS that they shipped with, Vista.

That being said, has anyone done any comparisons of the systems that supposedly deleted user files?

Were any of the running Malwarebytes 3.5 or 3.6? Because I recently ran into a similar issue with Vista, after installing Malwarebytes 3.x consumer version, ended up with a thousand pictures files in the Recycle Bin.

Something is screwy with the newest Malwarebytes.

Just checked, the folders are still empty! lol

Good think i only boot windows to game and all i download on it are drivers and hardware monitoring apps.
