Windows 10 Iso ?

So I qualify for free upgrade from 8.1 to 10. What if I want to format/clean install 10 and not upgrade over 8.1. Is there a way to get the iOS to burn so I can do this?

you have to upgrade first to "claim" your free upgrade, then you'll have option to create ISO media.... similar was during windows 7 and windows 8.1 upgrade phase

BTW do you guys recommend bothering with chipset drivers when doing a clean install on Windows 10, or do you just let the OS do it for you?

Your Windows 8.1 key seems to magically turn into a valid Win 10 key associated with your outlook account methinks. Will see on clean install.

Did not work. It would not accept my Windows 8.1 key. Guess I'll be calling Microsoft support.

There's also no option to let you choose which windows updates to download and install. All updates are automatic 🙄

Clean install confirmed. Upgrade first, activate via online account, then clean install (I did it offline. I always do it offline) skipping all product key entries. 2 strange glitches:

- DVD burn one froze up and wouldn't eject, on restart the bootmgr for Win 10 went missing. Had to restart again to eject and the bootmgr magically re-appeared.

- Clean install restart one, blinking cursor, manual restart and frantic DVD ejection later everything proceeded smoothly from then on. Thought there was another lockup but just another restart. More restarts than 8.1. ~25min or less on this 1TB EVO this is around 1.5yrs old with 4TB written.

- Offline clean install, installed all drivers from mobo site (H81M-S2H), Win 10 reinstalled the HD 4400 drivers. Rest are apparently newer. Or something. And yes you will install them. ALL OF THEM. 😀

Rough but usable so far. Win 8 key did not work. Don't bother.

@ escrow4, since your copy is activated, did you see any options to disable automatic updates, or at least choose which ones you want to install?

Nope (click twice for full screen):

Wonder what that uninstall preview build is doing there. Hmmm?

EDIT:

I'm planning on doing the upgrade on an old 80GB Velociraptor and then switching out to a newer and larger hard drive to do the clean install on.

This. Upgrade, then clean install. That's how it works, and the approach Microsoft supports.

Yeah don't do what I did, and try to do a clean install first. I'll have to call Microsoft later today and get them to give me a valid key so I can authenticate my install..

Shouldn't be an issue, as I do have a valid Windows 8.1 key..

You can skip the key prompt during upgradeinstallation and once installed, if you have a outlook account linked and you have internet access, it will activate itself.

I'm on a low bandwidth internet (1 mbps) and have several computers that needed an upgrade, not gonna download 3gb for each of 'em. Started MSFT's Media Creation Tool then left my room when the download is at 60% and returned to find it has exited, having somehow failed to do its job. The USB drive is still empty and when starting Creation Tool again I had to redownload from zero. What a useless download program.

When using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, where does the iso get downloaded to ?
Maybe there's a full or partial downloaded iso that I can find there.

is there an actual direct iso downlaod link?

the one above requires running under admin to create a disc (cant do that at work)

Can i use the ISO to upgrade. Want to download the image at work, burn it on a USB stick and take it home.
