Windows 10 Clean Install question?

Hi all, one of the things that I've always liked to do is do a clean install rather than an upgrade. The idea of installing an OS over another existing OS with all your programs, photos, games, videos etc etc etc never sounded pleasant to me. It feels like your over cluttering the storage device to a point where performance might take a hit. I can only remember one time in my life where I did an upgrade, ever since than I've always done a clean install over an upgrade.

My question is, from what I know, I understand Win10 will only be available as a free digital upgrade for existing 7/8 users. Will there be a way to install Win10 clean without having a previous OS installed? Maybe perhaps the Win10 setup might ask the user to throw in the Win7/8 disc to verify the upgrade without having to install in a whole previous OS? Thanks for any clarification.

The simple answer is right at the moment, we don't know, from the free upgrade

MS has not talked about it yet. The only way we will know at the moment is when July 29th come around

I think Ms is going to screw win7 users, if Ms makes people upgrade only from their existing Win 7, and only at the end of the Install users will know if they untitled to a copy of win 10,after their Win 7 is erased and they have no choice but pay for Win 10,
that's why i won't risk my Win 7 copy if i'm not sure that my Win7 won't be upgraded due non genuine copy.

I would suggest people to get another HDD and download an ISO of Win7 then validate it with you activation key then upgrade to 10 RTM, if it fails then you wont loose your original copy of WIN7.

I have my 2 Original HDD with win7 in store and i'm using Win 10 from an iso.

Man i don't know if my win7 are pirate or not for sure ,i bought PC's win win7 and upon checking if they are legit or not they show legit,but i had people stating that despite some win 7 showing legit activation they're not, i want to be on the safe side.

Frank, how could you not know if you have a pirated copy of Win7? If your Win7 Product Key has been Activated with Microsoft you can be pretty sure you have a valid copy and can get the free Win10 upgrade.

Man i don't know if my win7 are pirate or not for sure ,i bought PC's win win7 and upon checking if they are legit or not they show legit,but i had people stating that despite some win 7 showing legit activation they're not, i want to be on the safe side.

Are these on something like a Dell or HP or something? If so, 99.9999% certain they are legit dude. Stop worrying so much.

No, it will require that you are running a previous qualifying version and start the upgrade from within the qualifying version.

There should be an option, in the current build it's called "Rest this PC." Keeps your personal files and does a complete re-install of Windows. Been meaning to try it out, but haven't yet.

I though refresh kept your files, reset was total data loss?

Reset covers both in the latest build. Did one a little bit ago and told it to keep my files. Warned me that I would lose my ability to "downgrade," probably in preparation for those running 10 off the free upgrade. Ran without a hitch. When it finished my desktop had a link for "Removed apps."

Also answered a question I didn't remember seeing: "Will I be able to revert back to 7/8.1 if I don't care for 10?"

From what was said until now, the only way to do a fresh install of Windows 10 is to buy the OS, and receive and ISO/DVD.

I hope that this would not be the case, I really want a fresh install. But if I can't receive an .ISO, I will perform a clean Windows 7 install and then upgrade.

I still think that after you upgrade from Win7/8 to Win 10 RTM,one should have the right to make a clean install from a Win10 RTM ISO since i think you will be assigned an activation key for your Win10,this kinda makes sense,and it wouldn't make any sense other wise.

Isn't that what RampantAndroid said? You can do a clean install using a Win10 ISO. You just have to do the Win7/8.x to 10 in-place upgrade first.

Microsoft will make the ISO available to everyone ARAIK, similar to what they do with 8.1. The key, as always, will be to have the "key."

Give what Gabriel Aul has said, I suspect MS themselves will just publish the ISO. They've done it in past.

I had posted before that i heard some people say that you may have a legit copy showing when you type ''slui'' in the command search box but when you make an Iso of Win 7 Ms may not validate it.
to back this up today i made an Win 7 Iso on another HDD and when i typed slui it asked me for the Key which i typed in the activation box,it sais not valid with error code 0xc004E003,

This PC was bought second hand with win7 installed,the key is not in the case,i've got the key with

as you see if MS when upgrading from Win 7 to Win10 RTM asks for the legit key at the beginning of the install then we will not loose our OPS but if key is asked after install is almost completed then we will loose it,so be careful you may loose your win7.

Frank, it sounds like you're installing another copy of Win7 and then getting that the 2nd copy is not valid. Of course that's going to happen. MS knows you used the Product Key on the original machine. To be honest, it seems like you're making one post after the other here trying to scare people into not installing the Win10 upgrade.
