Ok, lets try it this way. In the dozens of machines I've put SP2 on, I have not seen any slow down. It is possible that your sisters machine had an issue (can't really argue it didn't without more data). However, you keep posting that there is some general issue with SP2 that makes all machines slower. That is not true.

Update it on your machine. If it's horrible, just system restore back before you did it. I don't believe you will see the slowdown you think you will.

Btw, some future apps (such as IE7) will require SP2. It is the new 'default' configuration for XP.

Won't work, I had a system I "attempted to roll back" as well as a friend doing the same (on his own freewill have you know it) and the system went bad..(Obviously not the hardware aspect...)

Hey bsobel, ever consider the fact that maybe his main rig has yet to be infected while an older system of his perhaps DID get infected at one point and he has been fine ever since?
