Having a large window installed in my living room. the contractor just threw out a quick $600-$800 for an Anderson window. I know they are fairly top of the line, so I took a quick look at the local Menard's store. They had a cheap brand called Crestline? that were about $2-300 for the same sized window and Jeld-Wen which were about $400 for the same sized window.

Anyone have any recommended brand? Top of the line would be nice, but probably overkill for my house/neighborhood.

Pretty sure I can't get custom stained glass for anywhere near a reasonable price.

Anderson makes a variety of window products from the 'do not buy' to nice windows to the very expensive windows. $600-800 for a large window from Anderson means it is probably their cheap[est] line.

Check out HomeDepot AND Lowes. One or both have price guarantees & it will let you see what you will get. Its a game so for that money it is worth it to play it.

Anderson is overpriced. Don't know Crestline but Jeld-Wen is ok. Make sure the windows your get has the features you want. One thing to remember is that Argon Gas is a money waster.

^^ Not if you want the 30% tax credit. The Jeld-Wens I just ordered had to be low-e with argon to qualify.

Yea the tax credit standards are super high.

Argon is a big rip-off. It's only really useful in super cold climates like below zero. Other than that the difference is VERY minimal. Not worth it but if you need the tax credit then there ya go.

See if there is a pella dealer near by. If so go there and price out a fiberglass window. Cheaper then the over priced wooden anderson and much stronger then vinyal.

I bought them for my house and installed them as well.
