window position problem

tittle sais it all basicly, the nautilus window remembers where it was closed but firefox and the terminal and a whole bunch of other appz dont, isntead they open on the top left corner of the screen.

this is extremely irritating to the point where i dont even want to use ubuntu.

i know about the option in compiz to make windows open in the center but i hate that too.

is there a to force application to remember their position, any kind of third party software that can do that.

If the app doesn't remember it's position and the WM won't do it for you then you're out of luck. I personally run E16 and find it's smart window placement to be excellent and on top of that it has the ability to remember just about every aspect about a window.

You can always use the -geometry option to any X11 application to place it on the screen. It's supposed to respect that. Something like

-geometry WIDTHxHEIGHT+XPOS+YPOs

that was one of the things i definitely liked about E16. its very useful and seems like the kind of thing someone else would care to implement

Some WMs have implemented window memory, I believe KWM does for instance, but I'm not sure about metacity or compiz.
