Window install - washer size?

I didn't buy a premade window kit, I just bought a bunch of window molding with locking strip, and will be buying both clear and smoked acrylic to play with.

Can someone with a window kit please tell me the size of the washer that comes with it, the one used to trace the window for the panel cutout? I mainly need the OD/ID difference.

Since I don't have a window precut, and have already traced on the panel, I'm going to do things backwards and cut the panel, lay it on the acrylic, then trace the acrylic, but I'd like an easy way to do that, and the right size washer WOULD be the easiest way.

Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

Come on, someone has got to have a new window kit laying around, or the washer left over from their old kit. I just need to know the spacing it gives - how far outside the window does the pen line end up. Then I can get any size washer that gives me that spacing.

You'd think if you bought 10 ft of molding there would be some hints with it, but nooooooo.

Why don't you just measure the thickness of the molding? Measure the area between the slot where the window fits and where the case fits.

...or don't you have the molding yet?

Measuring the thickness of the molding might work, but the washer might have a little slop involved, it may give a spacing slightly larger. For that matter, it might give a spacing slightly smaller in order to compress the rubber.

bas - unfortunately, no, that doesn't help. I can go to 2 different harwdare stores and buy 2 5/16" washers, and the OD-ID spacing will be TOTALLY different. In fact, at ONE shop, I can buy a 1/5" washer with a OD-ID of 3 different measurements!

What I really need is the DIFFERENCE between the window and the window hole. How much smaller is the window all the way around, compared to the window hole?

There's GOT to be someone that is in the midst of installing their window that has this info!

A 1/5" washer? I used to work at a hardware store and I've never been asked for that size.😛 I'll be in the market for window mod info soon so consider this as a 'bump' and not a 'crap'.

I did my own custom window and just eyeballed it without looking at the molding, if I had to guess maybe a little less than a quarter of an inch or so, may be wrong, its been a little while, but golly it aint gotta be perfect.

BTW, mine did turn out very nice.
