Here is the specs in my computer:
I have a MSI BX motherboard, soundblaster value, 128mb, ati all in wonder rage and ect.
The problem is once in while, about 2 through 3 weeks, after I use win 98, my system usually crash. I don't know why. Like if I am middle of surfing or typing my reports, the computer would freezes and so I had to reboot.
But After I rebooted, it crashed. It said one of the sytem files was missing and so I had to reinstall it again. That didn't help it too. So I formated it and installed everything over again. Finally, after I thought I got it together, 1 month or so, it does the same thing again. I been doing this for about 5 times ALREADY. DOES ANYONE HAS THIS KIND OF PROBLEM WITH WIN98 BECAUSE MY FRIEND'S COMPUTER IS FIND. His computer is the exact same thing as mine. We built it together, but his is find. HELP?

I think there might be problem with the hardware but not sure.

Your post is too vague.

When you type something for a length of time, your computer will crash a week or so later from the typing? :Q

when you type for a week or two in a row, your computer will crash? (duh. Unless you're Viper or have a more stable system, if that's possible)

Please clarify?

I think I may have your solution:

Promptly remove win98 (implement jaws of life if necesary) and proceed to either put CD in microwave or cut into itty bitty pieces and then flush down toilet. Next, install Win2k and be amazed at the world of stability....(well, for MS anyway...)

This is not normal,I use Win98 & it`s rock solid, even if yours is not it`s crashing too much IMHO ,does it crash when you are on the Internet & typing or anytime & not on the Internet? we need more details.

Sound to me you may have a hardware problem
Heatsink needs to be checked to see if installed properly and cleaned if too much dust
Get a cheap blower from Computercity and blow out your system
Check Add on cards and reseat them
Is Hard drive developing bad sectors - check
Check Powersupply for dust build up
Check for IRQ conflicts etc etc
