I recently purchased a new ssd and was wondering how rrobust the backup software was in win7...i wanted to do a fresh install and then migrate my programs and settings back into it...is it possible or is there a better option?
sorry im on my phone and didnt search to see if it was already covered....i wanted to get started when i get home later tonight

do not want w7 backup 😉 use BESR 2010 - far superior. it can manage multiple full bare metal backups over network(s) easily.

The only workaround I can think of if you need to restore a single file is to restore the backup to a VM.

Be wary of acronis true image. The last version 2010 was so buggy it trashed many many users systems. Seems some of the great backup software companies have good products but they keep trying to improve on what already works. Norton Ghost was once good, now not so much, same with acronis.

I'm currently using Macrium Reflect.
It is non-intrusive, does full and incremental, over a network or local, single file restores, mounting of backups so you can browse contents, and there is a free version.

From the True Image 2011 reviews at Newegg it still is buggy:
- Doesn't always back up or restore the master boot record properly
- You must validate all backups -- with at least some USB chipsets backups to external disks will be silently corrupted.

Which is sad, I've been using True Image and Disk Director for many years now.
