windose Me question

Just got a Dell laptop w/ windows Me. In our office, under network places, I can see the shared resources on the network, but not the individual computers as I was able to in Win 98 se. Is there a way to do this? Do I have to use the home networking wizard? On the home net, it had the same problems even with the network wizard. Admittedly, we are mixing 95, 98SE with Me but should that be a problem?

Thanks in advance.

I'm mixing win ME and win98se in my network. Make sure that you got your IP information right. If your office is using DHCP then try to release and renew.

Got to run and type winipcfg to do this.

In ME you have to go one step further. In My Network Places double click on the Computers Near Me and that will give you the view of the workgroup that you are used to. I generally pull a Computers Near Me shorcut to the Desktop to save time

Sorry I brain Cramped(had w2K on the brain). Open My Network Places then the Entire Network and you will see all of the Workgroups. From there you can select the workgroup that you want and create a shortcut on the desktop.

Panthers' your man....

One step further down the link in ME than in 2k. Logical, but different!

Sorry, I still can't see any of the other computers in the network, but the other win 98SE computer CAN see my Dell laptop. This is fustrating!!

Do I have to add this as a service / software under "add/remove software" in the control panel?

Thanks again.

What do you see when you Open My Network Places? From then you need to Click on the "Entire Network" Once that page opens Click on "View the Entire Contents of this page" (as you would have to if you were trying to explore the Program Files) That should show you all of then workgroups that you have on your network. Then just open the Workgroup and you should be alright

When I do that, I still see nothing, but the other computers in the workgroup see my Dell. This is fustrating!!!! I'm tempted to reinstall win98SE. It was soo easy with win 98. Why the difference with win Me??
Thanks

Right Click on my Network Places. Look at the protocols installed and see if Netbeui is installed. By the sounds of it Netbeui is not installed. Click on install | select protocols | Netbeui. OK then allow the system to reboot. Now you should be able to see the other systems.

By default Millennium does not install Netbeui. Neither do the OEMs that build systems.
