some newer computers are just NOT compatible with Win98/ME. The HP D220 microtower workstation is one example (spent 2 days trying).

Did you format all the hard drive before installing?

Once you've done that, copy all the (CD-rom unit):\Win98\ folder to your HDD, and run setup.exe from that same folder on your HDD-

try reformating the entire drive
then try the following

C:
mdwin98
cdwin98
copy"X":\win98\*.*

at the end just run setup.exe from the drive. by the way the "X" is what ever your cd rom drive is.........

good luck

thanx friends for ur reply i all ready formatted repartioned n formatted again copied 98 to d drive and the problem remains the same is it the bios problem ? upgrading by bios flash will help ? NWEAVER did u solve the problem with hp microtower after trying for days or the problem remained as usual

- plz reply thanx in advance

No; WinXP/2k are far more sensitive to data corruption, and if they didn't fail install, then it must be an incompatibility problem.

I suggest you use Win2k.

I never got 98 to install. It's a hardware incompatibility. That is a P4 2.66 craptasticlly cheap lab computer, so ymmv. I don't remembe the exact error, but I think it would bluescreen or the setup would lock long before it was ready.

I would give 2K a try, 98 is not nearly as nice.
