Winamp sound problems - Stutters

How come WINAMP stutters (sort of) when playing a song and opening apps or moving to a different site ect.

It's not like I have a slow PC ... Pentium III 733 128mb ram , SB PCI 128

This is really strange .. is there things I need to tweak or is it some BIOS settings I need to boost ?

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you post this in the tech support forum? Besides being on-topic, your message will have a longer life span there.

I had a similar problem with WinAMP (and IE5 Radio, incidentally). Turned out to be related to IE's smooth scrolling feature. CPU util could reach 90% with that "option" enabled. No more than 30% when disabled.

That happens to me once in a while when my computer has been doing some intensive tasks (and/or losing memory to those cursed memory leaks...) Anyways, a reboot usually fixes that.

Strange !

My PC is freshly rebooted and it still does it ...

Im sure someone has a solution to this 🙁

A fix for this is a bit long winded so here goes:

In winamp, open the preferences window.
Click on the input plugins in the left window.
Click on the Nullsoft MPEG audio decoder plugin, in the right window, and select configure at the bottom.
Click the streaming tab and under streaming data buffer up the value from 128K to 256K and see if that works.

If it doesn't quite sort it then raise the value of the streaming data buffer some more. You can also raise the percentage of the streaming prebuffer that is filled at the start of the song(on the same tab).

Hope this helps..🙂

not only that but the latest winamp decoder is a piece of crap. someone posted a link to winamp 2.22 somewhere around here, it has a much better decoder.
