WinAmp Security hole allows for remote code execution

Wait... this was reported in 5.05 and the article you posted claims it still is a problem in 5.06? Am I reading this right?

this is an old article and v5.05 fixes everything. I don't know where you see 5.06. There will be no more development effort... but I believe there will be further bug fixes/patches should further issues arise.

5.05 does not fix everything...I was on the receiving side of this attack this morning using the latest winamp. Their forums say that a new version (5.07?) is on the way.

5.06 is already out, and still has a hole....and the whole "winamp is dead" thing turned out to be wrong anyway

well that's good to hear... but are you sure "not dead" as in new development or just bug/exploit fixes because they promised the latter even if it were "dead". Sources ?

EDIT>>> 5.06 is all bug fixes, no development improvements...
