in winamp preferences -> direct sound output -> configure -> device tab

which audio device is it better to select?

1) primary sound driver

or

2) santa cruz

santa cruz, and also check "enable hardware accel" or something to that effect. That way, winamp will use your sound card's buffer directly, and not on an emulation basis, allowing for better sound quality and less cpu usage. Isn't life grand. :sun:

what does "primary sound driver" refer to? at first glance I would think that IS the santa cruz. I also have onboard sound but I disabled that in BIOS, so I don't think it refers to that.

Are there other places where I have this option to select between primary sound driver and santa cruz that I should know about?

I think they're one and the same and I believe that option is there in case you have more than 1 soundcard installed on the same system.

EDIT: "Primary Sound Driver" to my knowledge is the sound device that is selected in the Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio(tab).

Yeah, if you only have 1 card, it doesn't make any difference. They're one and the same.
