I know this is a little off-topic but it does deal with modding.

I know that a lot of users have WinAmp on their system....somone tell me what they think of this mod and any help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Winamp has short-cut keys such as these

X or Keypad 5 Play/Restart/Unpause
V Stop
Shift+V Stop with Fadeout
Ctrl+V Stop after current track
C Pause/Unpause
B or Keypad 6 Next Track
Z or Keypad 4 Previous Track
Keypad 1 Jump Ten Songs Back
Keypad 3 Jump Ten Songs Forward
Left Arrow or Keypad 7 Rewind 5 seconds
Keypad 9 or Right Arrow Fast-forward 5 seconds

L or Keypad 0 Open/Play File
Ctrl+L or Ctrl+Keypad 0 Open/Play location
Shift+L or Insert Open/Play Directory
Keypad 8 or Up Arrow Turn Volume Up
Down Arrow or Keypad 2 Turn Volume Down

as you can see, these could be useful, but what if you want to change songs while you are away from your computer?? Here is were my idea comes in!

Think back to old Nintendo, not NES or 64 but plain ol Nintendo. You have a controller with Directinal pad, a start and select button plus A and B keys.

I was thinkgof a Mod that deals with your keybaord....you could do a little wiring and have the Direcinal pad Up and Down adjust volume,so you whould have to somehow make the D-Pad up simulate the up-arrow from the keyboard and the D-Pad down simulate down arrow......you guys get what im saying? :)

you could set it up anyway you want....these are the key combos i was thinking of

D-Pad up- Volume up, Up Arrow
D-Pad down- Volume down, Down Arrow
D-Pad left- Previuos Song, Z
D-Pad right- Next Song, B

Start- Play/Pause, X
Select- Stop, V

The A and B buttons could be set for anything you want.

I whould really like to try and get this to work, please help me with input, and how to get the signaltothe computer, i was thinking through the keybaord......any ideas whould be appreciated

eh, just get a remote :p

Take a look.

This guy has directions for making NES/SNES/PSX/etc controllers that work w/ your computer (win9x only tho). Maybe he can help ya out with something. It would work if you could assign the controller to winamp (well, this would be true for ANY joypad really...). using a console pad just makes it cool :)

there's serveral remotes you can use for winamp that'd make your job a lot easier :)

most notably the old pacbell media remote you can find for $10 or something on the F/S Forum, with software. there's the mouse remote from x10 and also some higher end $50 specialized remote on outpost, all of these will control winamp fine and probably better then an old game console remote :)

If you goto a computer trade show you can find those PB remotes for $2, though Ive seen them as high as 5. I would say though you should get a numric key pad and mount it in your case. Then just paint the keys with a > and >> and << and all that.
