That's too bad, I've been using winamp since shortly after it first came out. To me, it's by far the best MP3 player for windows, nothing else even comes close. I guess we'll have to stick with winamp 5.xx then.......

I use QCD because it looks and feels like Winamp. The sound quality is also marginally better.

Winamp 2.9x rocked and still rocks. As long as I have the installer, I'm good to go for a good 5-10 years ;)

I've been using winamp since I could download mp3s! almost... 7 years ago. It comes only second to windows in terms how amount of usage. It's gonna be sad to see it go.

I hate you AOL. With a f*ckin passion.

i'm upset but it's not a huge deal. It's not like they're taking away v2.x or v5.05 away.

I hope it dies.

:(

I like Winamp.

There are better mp3 players.

examples please??
The only example anyone here is gonig to suggest will be foobar2000.
Personally I don't like foobar2000 at all. People will tout it as great, but these same people think that skinning xp is leet.. so...
Sonique is another option, but their interface is utterly horrible.

Speaking of horrible interfaces, I just tried out Foobar. Why would anyone use this as opposed to Winamp? Unless they're running very subpar machines. It doesn't sound any better and doesn't seem to have any functions that Winamp doesn't. Ah well.

This is really sad. AOL is like the Grim Reaper. If they buy you, you're done for. MS finally got Media Player 10 right, so it'll be a fine replacement, but I've used Winamp for about 6 years now :( I know exactly how the stuffed shirts can ruin a good thing- happened to me a few times.

After reading every post on this topic.

I'm quite suprised that no-one has mentioned Musicmatch Jukebox

Long live oldversion.com!!

Fvck version 5.xx and its bloatware counterparts.
Oh c'mon now, 5 was what 3 was supposed to be (2.x with some improvements notably in the skinning).
