Uses more ram for me. Winamp 2.5 uses about 10mb (jumped from 188mb to 198 mb used once started. doesn't make a difference if I have it minimized or not.

Winamp 5 uses about 20mb minimized, 26mb when it's on top.

Still its WAY better then itunes and it's not like I'm going to miss that extra 16mb

uses 25megs for me when i have the ML upen and the PLK expanded. when the MLis closed and teh PL mimamized it takes up 9

Any foobar users tried it yet??? I'm on foobar now and wondering how the new Winamp compares to it. I'll give it a try soon. 😀

Can anyone tell me how to make Winamp automatically check folders for new mp3s when it loads? I have all my mp3s in one folder but I constantly add new ones and it's a pain to add them to the library manually (rescan the entire folder of almost 100Gb...)

Yeah.. it wouldn't load older playlists.. but it still took quite a while for it to load about 1400 MP3s (metadatas read when it's loaded). I saved the playlist and restarted winamp, and it's also significantly slower than Winamp2. Maybe I'm spoiled from the uber quick loading with foobar2000 🙂

I just abandoned W3 and launched W5.
W5 sounds a bit better, even though there is no DFX plugin yet, the playlist handling is more complicated, less effective (needs more space on screen to use effectively because of the new skin) and the media liblary is worse than in W3. It can't sort songs/albums beginning with í,á,é and such characters right.

Some test results (YMMV):

The program itself is 947 KB. Version 2.91 is 827 KB.
Memory usage takes 7,796 KB (average while streaming); peak at 26, 935 KB (initialization at runtime); 5,866 KB at full windowshade, 2,752 KB minimized.

Peak CPU utilization (runtime) - 10%

I haven't tried to burn a CD yet, so CPU usage is expected to spike there.

Bookmarks (winamp.bm) can be copied into the Winamp root folder and used directly. (In case you installed 5 in directory other than the previous version.

Skins
Uses the WAL and WSZ files, as well as the WasabiXML generated skins (the 'WinAmp Modern' is one)

Thumbs up, so far.

only issue i have is that i run dual mon. the right mon is set to "primary" i have WA5 on teh left monitor yet it shows up in the taskbar on teh right side. and i cant do anything about this.

other then that its sweet

Anubis - Is the taskbar running the WinAmp agent (instead of winamp program)? I didn't install that part because the agent really buys me nothing.

yes

winamp 2 + winamp 3 = winamp 5

4 in chinese means DEATH i beleive. lots of programs skip it

If you dislike the speed and prefer that of Winamp 2.x, then you can simply switch to a classic skin, and that will fix most of the performance issues.

Or, if you want a modern skin that isn't too taxing, I love the NonStep skin.
