How do I rip a cd in winamp5?

Go to the Media Library. Right-click on the CD-Rom Drive, and select "Rip audio CD."

One caveat. You can only rip to Ogg and ACC, and the ripping is slow. This is because for faster ripping and ripping mp3s they need to pay licensing fees. To compensate, they will be offering a pro version that supports this. The free version will not lose any features Winamp previously had, and they won't nag you to buy the other version, but they need money to provide these other features.

Won't people just make their own plugins or something?

Is WA5 really bloated?

If it's possible, my guess us that they are welcome to. But as it stands, no such plugins exist.

Winamp 5 isn't bloated at all. It's just Winamp 2.9x with support for ripping, Winamp TV, DirectSound support, and freeform skins. They didn't try to overhaul the core architecture like they did with Winamp3.

Edit: Oh, and you can choose to disable all those features, but that essentially would leave you with 2.9x. 🙂
