Is it worth getting Pro vs the 'non-pro', for Pro's ripping, encoding, and burning? Or are the separate apps that do this still better?

BTW, 5.02 is out as of 2/6.

Well, for ~$15, it's not a bad deal to be able to rip and burn MP3's However, if you've already got programs that take care of it like CDex, EAC, and Nero, then why pay for it?

Not meaning to take away from Winamp Pro, as it's a great program well worth the 15 bucks, but I'll just stick with CDex and Nero.

Got it. One more, do you install 5 over the top of 2.x or uninstall first (will it leave all your plugins)?

I used to be all about EAC + Lame, but damn if iTunes hasn't just spoiled me. It encodes like 10x faster, and at 256k vbr, it sounds great. Then it spits the CD back out so you just put the next cd in and it imports that one into itunes too.

As for burning, the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't overburn.

iTunes is no faster. you probably had you EAC/LAME settings set to "secure" This slows things way down but increases quality. Use "burst mode" for faster ripping.

Well, I rip using CDex or EAC or whatever to wav. Then I compress using RazorLame and it takes forever. I'm not complaining about the ripping times, but the encoding times seem a great deal longer using --alt-preset extreme

i installed 5.x over 2.x but i didn't have any plugins. however it left my skins alone. oh and winamp 5 will rip in aac for those that are interested. pro does mp3 and mp4 aac. the free version is limited to 2x ripping. i don't have any interest in itunes so winamp 5 pro is perfect for me.

oh yeah, the only thing i don't like is that it won't make only id3v2 tags. it makes both v2 and v1 tags. so i just use id3kill to remove the v1 tags and i'm all set to go.

I still can't get Winamp5's library to index my 70+GB of music without crashing.

iTunes can't do it because it's in .ape format.

Already read the winamp page, doesn't tell anything that I saw. What I meant was if you uninstall first, will it keep the plugins...
