WINAMP 5.1 SURROUND EDITION - What's new with this edition? How do I use the surround option on it?

I don't see a Surround Edition. Link?

In older Winamp releases, you just need to change the output to DirectSound to use your surround speakers.

the surround sound edition is the new 5.1 release... Its the main one, it says that after you install it and run the software.

I think 5.1 is just the version number. I don't think it has anything to do with a 5.1 speaker option or anything.

I was wondering why someone would want to play a STEREO MP3 in 5.1

You gotta admit that is some confusing labeling. Surround edition, 5.1? lol

- It's software version 5.1
- A surround sound type is called 5.1
- Winamp 5.1 thusly called "surround sound" edition as slang, it's a joke.

If you pay for the pro version of winamp you have the ability to rip/encode and play AAC Plus files which are 5.1. So there really is surround in there, just not in the free version. The website doesnt say if you can playback AAC Plus files with the free version. Might have to try that when I get home.

a little off topic but is there an option somewhere to not make the "5.1 Surround whatever" logo pop up for the firs 5 seconds of opening the program

I believe it supported surround sound since Winamp 2, and I know the first Winamp 5 supported surround sound.
