Win98se and ram?

HI
Earlier this evening I read a post saying that the most ram you can use on a mobo when running win98se is 256 meg.
I just did a search for that post and couldn't find it.
Is it true that win98se limits you to 256 meg of ram???
Did I read that post wrong?????
The reason I am concerned is I just bought 2 sticks of Crucial 256 meg Cas 2 ram to go into a new pc I am building. Gonna load win98se to get the pc started and then hopefully (when I hit the Power Ball) upgrade to win 2000 o/s. I am going to use the Asus AV7-133 mobo with a 1.2 gig 266 AMD cpu.

Thanks

Win98 can address up to 2+GB of memory. If a person said 256MB was the limit he/she is wrong.

I think that that person meant was it'll utilized the 256 the most. After adding anymore then that, you probably won't see a big difference. Probably only in ram hogging utils.

I'm using Win98SE with 512MB of RAM, have no problem with it.. but I do use a lot of RAM hungry apps.. so RAM is important to me, I was thinking about getting another stick..

andrey: Like the KB article states the problem lies on the vcache driver, so as long as you limit the cache szie below 512MB, it should be fine (mine is set way lower anyway).
