my win98 box couldn't connect to the internet though the network card had no issues in device manager. So I removed it from device manager and also removed all the protocols in network (netbui..aol adapter..etc).

when i rebooted I got the bsod saying i need to run the windows start up, do you want to procede? y or n

in either case y or n doesn't do me any good.

So what do I do? just reinstall win98? I've tried booting into safe mode and removing all start up programs.

this is the error I get:

Invalid VxD link call from VSDATA95(01) +00014E84 to device "0028

I'm guessing 0028 refers to my network card. I've removed it already and same error.

Ran into this with Windows 95 once and ended up reloading the PC. I would suggest backing up anything you need and reloading. Although you might want to try sticking another network card in and see how that works. Chances are your drive is hosed.

Before you re-install your OS, try booting in SAFE MODE and see if you can or cannot get past that boot up error.

You must press and hold down your F8 key while the machine is booting up to get your boot up options in Win98.
