Win98 SE still the best for us Casual Users

I'm sorry but I have used XP extensively and simply do not like it one bit. Too much bloat for me, 98se is perfectly simple and i can customize it for PURE SPEED. I'm excessively anal about my computer, and XP is not as customizable and simple things take many clicks in XP. Also, gaming is simply better and faster in 98se. You can argue stability up the wazoo, but 98se never crashes on me, ever.

Xp, being an NT based OS, requires more advanced knowledge to tweak and parse down properly. Not everyone is into that.

If you like 98, you like 98. It's more a matter of your abilities/like/dislikes than it is of "which OS is better".

sure it might be stable for you, but you cant make a blanket statement like "for us casual users" and then act like everyone has the same experience as you. i find all windows versions to have lots of instability under certain circumstances, but either way overall an NT based windows is the only choice for REAL security (well somewhat..ah forget i said it), ok.... NT > 9x. thats all i will say.

but then again 9x < * so its no surprise 😛

If you do not make too many changes, then 98 may be appropriate. I dont like having to
reboot after every little tweak in 98. I have XP Pro sitting at my desk, I will upgrade it
once the service pack for it is out. I am always uncomfortable with upgrading to the
1.0 version of anything!

I have W2K pro and it has been quite stable thus far.
