hey all, i just blew away ME last night and installed win98 SE. problem is i had a couple of lockups after the fresh install. so i installed norton utilities hoping that would help(?) but upon shut down bsod. i figured i would let it sit and watch some tv on the pc (win-tv board) i left the pc on overnight. i attempted to get on this morning and system.ini cant be found !? so upon trying to reinstall windows again i get a bsod! on the install! so i try again (from the start up disk) and to my amazement another bsod all of the sudden. so i decide to format c:\ /u. i havent reinstalled again but what the hell is going on here? thanks everyone. this is the BEST forum.

Remove ALL unnecessary hardware from your system. Hook up ONLY: HD, floppy, RAM, vid card, keyboard and mouse. Reformat your drive and do a clean install of Windows. Make sure everything is working correctly. Then install each peripheral one at a time, pausing after each piece is installed to make sure everything is still working properly.

thanks bglad, thats a great idea, i dont know why i didnt think of that! i will try that when i get home. any other ideas just let me know. 😀

Ok, heres another trick I use. After doing a clean install of Windows, Ghost the drive. Then, if you have problems, you don't have to do an install of Windows. You can just revert to Ghost image of the drive. You can do this after fresh install. Then, if all peripherals install perfectly, I Ghost again so I can restore and don't even have to install anything.

great, ive been wondering what to do with that shiny new copy of norton ghost that came with the new mobo!! thanks again.😉
